The out of the box client connectors (JavaScript, .net, Java, Flex, SilverLight etc.) bundled with Diffusion have a clever mechanism for selecting the most optimal transport layer, given a client’s technology environment settings. Essentially the Diffusion adapter will try the optimal transport layer (socket) first, but if this fails to connect due to an environmental constraint or issue (firewall, desire of the user etc.) then the adapter will try and connect using the alternative transport layers until a connection is successfully made.
