New Diffusion Cloud Features for Realtime Data Streaming

Since launching Diffusion Cloud, we’ve worked to enhance it so it solves real problems developers are having. One such problem – architecting data efficient applications that work. Today we launch new features of Diffusion Cloud including a revamped pricing model we know you’ll love.

Byte-based billing

Diffusion Cloud offers a unique data-centric pricing model, designed to help keep application costs low by leveraging this delta streaming technology that improves data efficiency. Across each service plan, Diffusion Cloud data-centric pricing allows an unlimited number of messages, charging applications only for the data they consume – in contrast to other realtime messaging vendors, where the developer is forced to tailor message consumption to meet messaging limits.

JSON Topics and Binary Topics

App developers need to stop paying to move data that they don’t need. JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) may offer much improved data efficiency over its predecessors (such as XML), but the attribute markup still represents significant overhead on the wire.

For a given data object, Diffusion Cloud from Push Technology’s delta streaming feature provides clients only the differences between old and new data, rather than providing the entire JSON payload – limiting the need to send markup that isn’t changing from one message to the next. Delta streams greatly reduce the bandwidth requirements and latency, offering up to 90% data efficiency improvement. In addition, developers can continue to integrate with existing JSON objects natively making it fast and easy to add binary delta streaming to any application.

Enhancements to the Apple® API

The Apple API now has the capability to create, update, and delete topics. For more information, see Apple API.

New security permission: select_topic

The select_topic security permission has been added to the list of topic-scoped permissions. This permission controls whether sessions can subscribe to or fetch from particular parts of the topic tree. For more information, see Permissions.

Transport cascading in the JavaScript® API

The JavaScript API now supports connecting to Diffusion Cloud using the HTTP polling transport. You can specify that your client attempts connection using more than one transport. If a connection attempt using the first specified transport fails, the client cascades to the next specified transport and uses it to attempt connection. For more information, see Using the JavaScript API.
